The Jharkhand students’ protest escalated on Monday as job aspirants clashed with police during a march towards the State Assembly, with police using water cannons, tear gas and lathicharge. Several protesters alleged injuries, while police said four personnel were injured in stone-pelting. At the same time Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the government had heard the students' concerns and assured them that their demands would be addressed with seriousness and sensitivity. He said the government aims to make the examination system more transparent, technology-enabled, secure and accountable, and urged students to work with the government through dialogue and trust to resolve the issue.
Statewide bandh called for TuesdayThe BJP has called a statewide bandh in Jharkhand on Tuesday from 8 am to midnight to protest the police action against students. Essential services will be exempted from the shutdown. The State Assembly is also scheduled to meet tomorrow after being adjourned for the day on Monday. Meanwhile the Jharkhand Assembly, which was adjourned for the day on Monday, is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday.
